Charmaine Tearle has worked as a Speech and Language Therapist since 2009. Her experience includes work in pre-schools, mainstream schools, language units and special schools settings. Charmaine has developed expertise working with pupils with moderate and complex learning difficulties in school and home settings. Training is of particular interest as Charmaine’s working ethos is to empower parents and teaching staff in communication.
Over the years, I have worked with many different children, from a large variety of backgrounds and all with varying needs. It's clear to say that each individual child requires their own individual programme as no two cases are alike. My passion is to create a programme for the individual, really focussing on their needs and maximising their communication!
Talking is not just about the words we use. It’s so much more! We communicate using our bodies and things available to us such as objects, signs and symbols. Think about how many symbols you use every day to help find the exit in a shop or the way to the toilet. Using these extra things to support spoken language and understanding is sometimes called Alternative or augmentative communication (AAC for short). I specialise in supporting children to use all the ways available to them to communicate with the world around them.
